Know your options for facing drug charges

| Feb 19, 2019 | Drug Charges

Drug charges must be addressed as quickly as possible. Even if you think that you have plenty of time before you go to court, you should get started on your defense strategy as quickly as possible once you know that you are facing charges. We know that this might be a complex and difficult situation for you because of the possibility of serious penalties.

One thing that you can’t do is assume that because you are facing possession charges that you should take them any less seriously than what you would if you were facing more serious drug charges. It is imperative that you review all the options that you have for your defense so that you can make decisions that are in your best interests.

In some cases, defendants have the option of taking part in a special program, such as Drug Court, that can help them to address the criminal charges while they get the help they need for an addiction. These programs have very specific requirements. If you can’t comply with your responsibilities or don’t meet the criteria for the program, you won’t be able to utilize the opportunity to avoid jail time after a conviction.

When you are facing these charges, keep an open mind about what options are available to you. Don’t think that the defense that another person used will work for you because even small differences between the cases can make a difference. We can work with you to evaluate the possibilities so that you can make decisions regarding the direction of your defense.
