21-year-old Arkansas man on bond after accused of drug crimes

Drug crimes are taken seriously nationwide, and manufacturing, possessing, selling and trafficking of controlled substances can have devastating consequences. Arkansas narcotics officers and police recently manned a traffic stop in the prevention of drug crimes. Detectives noticed a driver operating a vehicle without being restrained. When they followed the vehicle, the driver allegedly increased his speed and made numerous evasive turns before ultimately stopping in a driveway.

According to the detective’s affidavit, the 21-year-old driver of the car appeared to remove items from the rear seat. When he was asked for his driver’s license, vehicle registration and insurance proof, he could not provide it. In answer to the detective’s question regarding whether he was in possession of anything illegal, he allegedly said there was a can of snuff in the back pocket of his pants. Upon checking the can, the detective claims to have also found suspected residue of methamphetamine in four bags along with a syringe.

Furthermore, a search of the vehicle produced a pair of digital scales. The detectives reported that the 0.9 grams of the substance suspected to be methamphetamine would be analyzed by the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory. The man was arrested, and after prosecutors had established probable cause, the judge set a $10,000 bond. He will be facing charges of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia possession.

It was reported that this man had no pending charges, nor has he had any previous convictions. He will likely be concerned about the impact these charges could have on his personal and professional life. A suggested first step for an Arkansas resident who is accused of drug crimes might be to retain the services of an experienced drug crime defense attorney. A lawyer will determine whether the accused individual’s constitutional rights were violated during the search and seizure proceedings. If the charges are legitimate, an attorney can work on building a defense strategy that will best serve the client’s interests.
